Road Poem #1

Writer's picture: Christa PaglieiChrista Pagliei

I am drowning in the vastness of a space I’ve never been-

Waiting patiently for something.

For the moment I can spring.

I wonder if you can hear me,

As I thunder ‘cross the landscape.

leaving behind a cloud of dust racing across the highway.

There’s a promise that I made

about when I would be good.

and it doesn’t apply when I make my way to you.

But when I touch down softly I will bring a thousand miles

and every sunset I saw strung upon a rope.

So I’ll lay them like a treasure

Yes, I’ll wind them at your feet.

I only leave so that I may return home.
